The Best Tennessee State Parks for a Cabin Get-Away

Tennessee cabins

Camping is a great way to enjoy some fresh air and spend quality time with your family. If “roughing it” in a tent isn’t for you, plenty of Tennessee state parks offer rental cabins. This way you can enjoy many of the comforts of home while still getting an outdoor experience and enjoying the state’s scenery.

Fall Creek Falls State Park

Located on the Cumberland Plateau in Middle Tennessee, Fall Creek Falls State Park offers visitors 30 well-equipped cabins. Some overlook the lake while others offer a view of a beautiful wooded hillside.

Each cabin has two or three bedrooms and access to horseshoe pits, basketball courts and playgrounds. The park offers tons of activities for families: boating, hiking, horseback riding, fishing and the chance to catch a glimpse of a stunning waterfall. At 256 feet, it’s the tallest single vertical-drop falls east of the Rockies!

Roan Mountain State Park

Tucked high in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Roan Mountain State Park has 30 cabins available for family holidays. You won’t have to worry about the kids staying glued to the television — the cabins don’t have with TVs. However, they do come with fully equipped kitchens, linens and firewood for the wood-burning stove.

You’ll find plenty of hiking trails, a pool and streams for fishing. The park is especially busy in June when the rhododendrons are in bloom and thousands flock to see the world’s largest natural grouping of these brilliant purple flowers.

Natchez Trace State Park

Situated about halfway between Nashville and Memphis, Natchez Trace State Park is named for the trails and paths the Native Americans used to travel. Stay in one of 17 cabins nestled along Cub Lake. Each one comes with a fireplace, grill cooking utensils, linens and towels.

Explore the park by taking a short walk across a footbridge to the lake’s public beach. The park also has plenty of trails for hiking and horseback riding.

Paris Landing State Park

Paris Landing State Park, located near the Tennessee/Kentucky border, has 10 three-bedroom cabins that can accommodate up to 10 people each. They all have central heating and air, televisions, gas fireplaces and fully equipped kitchens.

A 130-room inn is also an option and overlooks the scenic Kentucky Lake. The inn has a gift shop, fitness center and some handicapped-accessible rooms. Elsewhere in the park, find swimming, hiking, bird watching, boating, fishing and golf.

Norris Dam State Park

The Norris Dam State Park is just outside of Knoxville and has everything you need for a fun-filled vacation. You can even bring your four-legged friends since two of the cabins are pet-friendly (with an additional fee).

The Lenoir Museum Cultural Complex is located within the park, and features pioneer exhibits, an 18th-century gristmill and threshing barn, plus other unique antiquities from the region. The park also hosts seasonal events like wildflower hikes and fall color boat trips.
