Once warmer weather hits us, there’s nothing quite like a bike ride in the open air. Gliding along a path in a gorgeous locale, you feel the breeze on your face and take in the sights and sounds of nature while fitting a little activity into your day. And you might be surprised to find there are plenty of amazing places for biking in Memphis.

While it’s known for its music and BBQ, the Bluff City certainly doesn’t skimp on beautiful places to get active!

Check out our guide to biking in Memphis, and prepare for a leisurely ride this spring or summer. We’ve compiled some Memphian favorites that you can check out on two wheels with your family or friends. So strap the helmets on the kids or invite your friends to join you!

But most important, you’ll want to heed proper safety precautions:

  • Always wear a helmet that fits properly on your head.
  • Make sure your bicycle is the correct size for your height.
  • Check your equipment and make sure tires are inflated and brakes are working properly. It’s a good idea to carry a spare tube and tools needed to change a flat with you while you ride.
  • Make sure you’re visible. Ideally, ride during bright daylight hours, and always wear reflective clothing or gear and colors that contrast with those of the environment you’re riding in (for example, neon yellow may blend with lush, green surroundings compared to orange, red or blue).
  • Be aware of your surroundings. Make sure you’re keeping an eye on the path to ensure it’s clear and safe.

Now that you’re ready to safely ride, let’s check out some beautiful places for biking in Memphis!
